NUI Maynooth's MSc in Immunology and Global Health has been awarded 1st Prize for Postgraduate Course - Science and Engineering at an award ceremony hosted by graduate recruitment website GradIreland.com.
The MSc in Immunology and Global Health was initially shortlisted along with courses from DCU, UCD and NUI Galway before going on to win the award judged on criteria including employability, innovation and student feedback. This is the first year that GradIreland has had a category for Best Postgraduate Course.
The MSc in Immunology and Global Health has been running since 2008, and is unique within Ireland. Taking influences and techniques from social sciences such as sociology and anthroplogy, the course provides biological and health science graduates with a deeper understanding of the challenges of health and development while broadening their understanding of immunology.
'This programme represents and innovative development in higher degree options in the biological sciences,' says course director Dr. Noel Murphy. This award further strengthens the international reputation that the Institute of Immunology has developed since it's formation in 2002, winning over €13million in external research funding from agencies such as SFI, Health Research Board, Enterprise Ireland, the European Commission and Irish Aid. Part of it's success has been due to it's innovative links with industrial partners such as Wyeth, and Genemedix. This excellent reputation for research is paramount in the development of it's Graduate programmes.
The Ceremony, held on 20th May 2010, was attended by employers, recruiters and postgraduate course providers from across Ireland. 'We were very pleased with the number of entries for the competition,' says GradIreland Publisher Mark Mitchell. 'We hope to be able to run this competition again next year in more subject areas.'
